Dock at Eagle Beach, Elk Lake

Although there are many hiking trails in the popular Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park near Victoria, those who like to stride out will be well exercised by the time they complete the 10-km circuit of these two large, joined lakes.

Although shared in places with horses, mountain bikes and joggers, this trail is wide enough for all, and provides a variety of scenery along its route as it winds around both Elk and Beaver Lakes.

There are many pleasant places to stop along the way, including a fishing wharf, four beaches with washrooms and rest areas with benches. This is a multi-purpose park enjoyed by all - including plenty of Canada Geese.

A tranquil corner of Beaver Lake

Drive north from Victoria on the Pat Bay Highway (Hwy 17), and turn left at the first traffic light after seeing Elk Lake (it's huge, and close to the highway).

For access to the south end of the park (Beaver Lake), turn left at the Haliburton Road traffic light on Hwy 17, immediately north of Royal Oak Drive. The park is a few hundred yards down Elk Lake Drive on the right.
